Sam's review of 'Quiz for a Cause'
On the 19th of January, we were brought together with church family and guests for a quiz, with the aim of raising money for refugees.
A time of fantastic food, friendship and school-subject-themed questions, the evening was a delight to be a part of. Although some teams perhaps were more successful than others, the sense of fun throughout the evening, regardless of how well the answers were going, was very clear to see.
A shout-out has to go to the team who ran the quiz, with the whole thing working smoothly and effectively; the catering team and those behind the scenes who provided us all with wonderful food, and Emmie who shared his story.
Part way through the evening, a video was shown of Emmie describing his experience of being a refugee: having to escape his home country and eventually ending up in England. It was a really provoking reminder that refugees aren’t just coming here or coming to other places because they fancy a change of scenery, but are fleeing from a situation that is dangerous. It really put into focus the reason why we were there that evening, and why it’s so important to help support those who have been forced away from everything they know, and are in need of help.
Overall, it was a highly entertaining evening with a really significant purpose and an event well worth coming to.
